AI Buzzword Bingo!

ML, LLM, DL, NN…. there are so many acronyms in the world of AI, and even more buzzwords. With our mission to help demystify AI here is our version of some of the commonly used terms that you might hear associated with AI.

Artificial Intelligence

Lets start with Artificial Intelligence (AI) itself. Artificial Intelligence is the umbrella term for when computers are made to mimic human intelligence. Imagine a robot making you a cup of tea or a computer program beating you at chess.

Machine Learning (ML)

Machine Learning is a subset of AI focused on developing algorithms that enable machines to learn from and make decisions based on data. Unlike traditional programming, where tasks are executed based on explicit instructions, ML models improve their performance over time with exposure to more data. This capability is foundational to many applications, from predictive analytics to image generation.

Neural Networks (NN)
Neural Networks are inspired by the human brain. Just like our brains have neurons connected in all sorts of complex ways, neural networks connect tiny processing bits (let's call them "digital neurons") to process information. They are at the heart of deep learning algorithums.

Deep Learning (DL)

Deep Learning advances the concept of neural networks by adding multiple layers of "digital neurons," enabling it to handle increasingly complex tasks, such as real-time language translation or facial recognition on your smart phone. Essentially, it equips computers with a highly enhanced brain.

Generative AI (GENAI)

GenAI is our final subset of AI technologies displayed above. As described by its name, it can generate new content, such as images, text, and music, that resemble human-made content. It learns from existing data to create original output that didn't exist before, essentially allowing machines to emulate creative processes.

What about Large Language Models (LLMs)? Well, we think this deserved it’s own article so we have written a more in depth explanation here.

Bingo!

Remember, AI is a tool, and like any tool, it's all about how we use it. So, here's to using AI to build a brighter, smarter, and more understanding future for everyone.
